No data for timestep solutions
 

Hi,

I just installed OpenFOAM 1.3 and ParaView 2.6 on our Windows XP 64 machine under Cygwin. I ran the nozzle2DFlow tutorial . Now if I try to load the data in ParaView (using paraFoam), it opens the initial field ("0") data correctly. However, if I try to go to another time step, there are no field values (p, U etc.). However, the data files are there (in directories called 1e-6, 2e-6 and so on).

I tried the icoFOAM/cavity tutorial and I *can* plot the data of that case.

I looked in the paraView trace file, but there are no clear clues there.

Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?

I had also some problem visualize the results under cygwin. Away around this is to use the foamToVTK, and visualize these files in paraView, not paraFoam.

Just wondering.... In OpenFOAM 1.3, the PVFoamReader, and vtkFoam libraries (which are used by paraFoam) are compiled with the help of libraries and source files generated by compiling Paraview 2.4.4 (or was it Paraview 2.3.x) and available in the paraview source.

I dont think this will directly work with paraview 2.6. You will have to compile paraview 2.6 from source, and recompile PVFoamReader and vtkFoam with the required files from paraview 2.6 in order for paraFoam to work.

I tried some more cases, and paraFoam 2.6 works just fine with other tutorials (for example, the interFoam/damBreak tutorial). It just doesn't work with the lesInterFoam/nozzleFlow2D tutorial for some reason. But maybe it does have something to do with version incompatibilities. I'd rather not build ParaView from source though...

Hi, I'm the one who wrote the paraFoam script in the Cygwin version.

The paraFoam script in the Cygwin version is implemented utilizing the native reader in ParaView 2.6. It's because I had no confidence in resolving compatibility issues between the native Windows application (ParaView) and the Cygwin-dependent libraries (PVFoamReader-vtkFoam). Actually I once tried it but couldn't get it to work.

It certainly seems there are some works to do left in the native reader so foamToVTK would be an intermediate solution.

Cygwin port of OpenFOAM 1.4 is near finished and will emerge in this week. I will sort out its hosting yet. It will be without FoamX and parallel stuff.

I plan to have a look on parallel stuff 1st and FoamX later, hoping Takuya will find a little of free time later to port FoamX into 1.4.

Ok I'll try asap after the 1.4-Cygwin release... My optimistic expectation is the work will be easier since 1.4 includes the latest (and portable) version of MICO.
