If someone is using the 32 bit binaries for openFoam 1.3 could you please say whether the stream tracers function works for you?

I used the paraFoam to load a paraView tutorial and get stream line things working... but still the cavity case fail to run in streamline.... strange.

We have the same problem too with the Stream Tracer Filter and paraFoam from OpenFOAM 1.3.

On my side, I have found out that the ExtractParts trick is working, but only if I extract the Internal Mesh alone, without any boundary patches.

This way, the Stream Tracer Filter applied to the extracted Internal Mesh will only have one dataset to work with (check the Information Tab for the Number of datasets), and it will do its job without complaining.

My little 2 cents... until a better fix can be found...

Hej,

I have a same problem as you :

There was a VTK Error in file: ../../../../../paraview-2.4.2/VTK/Filtering/vtkDemandDrivenPipeline.cxx (661)
vtkCompositeDataPipeline (0x18a3540): Input port 0 of algorithm vtkDistributedStreamTracer(0x29177d0) has 4 connections but is not repeatable.

I am tring following tutorials, but now I stock at this place.

Could you help me?

Best regards,
Rita

Hi Rita

Look at the second post in this thread (Thomas') and the previous (Matin's). It's all there:

Go to the Filter-Menu, Choose "Extract Parts" in the dialog box Choose only "Internal Mesh". From this filter-node (and only from this) you can generate Streamlines.

Hej Bernhard,
I have tryed, but nothing.

I went to the "Extract Parts"-> choose mesh...but still the same thing.

Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Best regards,

Hello Rita,

First, apply the Extract Parts filter.

Then, make sure you have selected the "extracted" part representing your internal mesh before applying the Stream Tracer filter.

In paraView/paraFoam, filters are always applied to the entity that is currently selected.

Hej,

Thank you for help.

I did that you sad, but nothing happend. How I can check that I have selected the "extracted" part?

Rita

Ok, when you apply the Extract

Ok, when you apply the ExtractParts filter, paraFoam will automatically present you a menu where all the "subparts" are already pre-selected. You don't want that.

You need to select with your mouse only the subpart called "Internal Mesh" in order to extract only the internal mesh.

By default, that new extracted part will be called "ExtractParts1".

Then, you need to apply the StreamTracer filter to that part by first selecting "ExtractParts1" and then selecting the Stream Tracer option in the Filter menu.

Hej Martin,

Thanks again for your kind help!

Can I ask you more q's;) I did what you said, but why with my streamlines I have got a error message:

here was a VTK Error in file: ../../../../../paraview-2.4.2/VTK/Filtering/vtkPolyLine.cxx (195)
vtkPolyLine (0x3506b20): Coincident points in polyline...can't compute normals

What is it means?

Hi Rita,

That error message does ring a bell, but I can't remember what I did at the time to get rid of it. Maybe other Foam users could help you better than me here.

Could be something with mesh or vector field.

Try playing with the Streamlines filter parameters, changing starting position, number of points, radius, etc.

Good luck.

Hi Rita!

But your stream-lines get displayed (at least some of them)? I think this is a warning he displays when some "seed points" of the streamlines are outside of the mesh (speak: where no data is). But I could be wrong.

Have a look at the VTK-mailinglist-archives. Looks like the kind of stuff you find there.

Hej,

I have solved the problem. I changed resolution from
20 to 21 in the "Stream". Now no error message.

Thank you,

I tried using Martin's Extract Part Filter. It works
Make sure that only Internal Mesh is chosen.

Can't figure the reason why. I bet I shall explore further.
