Velocity Contour in Paraview

Hello,
I am not able to display Contour of Velocity (isolines).
In the contour Panel, I just have the choice between p,k and epsilon.... but no U.
Is it a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
I use version 3.4.0 on XP

Ok I was doing it wrong.
Contour cannot be displayed with vectors, only with scalars.
So I had to create the scalar U=sqrt(U_x**2+U_y**2+U_z**2) and it appears in the drop list.
:)

Thanks for the solution..
I think its a beginner's mistake..everyone has to do it..

How can you create a new variable in paraview?

Hi,
You could add the calculator filter (Filter/Common/Calculator) and then put in the transformation Max suggested.

Hi guys,

How do we use the Calculator in combination with the slice + contour filter? I can't have vorticity available in my contour options :/

Thx

edit: Works fine. Thanks!

I know this post is a little old and has been solved but here's another (potentially simpler way).

Go to settings > General > Turn on Auto convert properties.

Then velocity will be an option in the contour properties!
