Paraview display problem

##Problem SOLVED##

Hi foamers

I am doing a 3D LES flow past a cylinder. I have no problem running the simulation with OpenFOAM. However, I have had some problems viewing the results with Paraview. I have about 120,000 cells in the xy plane.

When I have 5 grid points (4 cells) along the spanwise didirection (z direction). I can view the results without any problem.

However, when I increase the number of grid points in the z direction to more than 7 (more than 6 cells in z), I can see that all my parts in "Mesh Parts" and field data in "Volume Fields" are still in the Paraview, but there is only one empty block on the right display window of Paraview. Furthermore, I can only select between "Solid Color" and "vtkCompositeIndex" under "Display" Tab -> "Color by" option, where I can normally choose my U, p, vorticity and etc. I can still see my data array under "Information" -> Data Arrays.

I have also tried converting the data to VTK by foramToVTK and it does not help either.

Does anyone have the same problem?

The problem is fxed.

Paraview was default to have Display Tab -> Style -> representation with surface by default before. After I opened the large data file. it was set default to have Display Tab -> Style -> representation with Outline somehow. If I change it back to surface and it works.

What is the meaning of vtkCompositeIndex?

It gives a scalar field that identifies by index to which patch or mesh part the item belongs to.
For example, in the attached image you can see that I've chosen to see only the patches (selected in the lower left part of the image) and then represented by "vtkCompositeIndex". This is for the "incompressible/icoFoam/cavity" tutorial and this way I can see where each patch is assigned to.

The downside is that we have to interpret manually that the values are respective to each item:
  • "movingWall" is defined as 2
  • "fixedWalls" is defined as 3
  • "frontAndBack" is defined as 4
Best regards,
Bruno

Thank you so much Mr. Bruno.

I understand now :)
