Particle tracking in ParaView 4.1.0

Hello,
I was trying to use the procedure from 7islands for the particle tracking in ParaView 4.1.0, however some filter as ParticlePathlines or Pathlines are missing. I tried to use filter ParticlePath, however it does not work. Can somebody advise me how to track a particle (defined e.g. by point source) over simulation time in ParaView 4.1.0? I use interFoam solver.

There is a tutorial on the wiki now

The example showed by 7islands in now on the wiki. Link here.

foamToVTK- nothing in scalar nor vector of lagrangian cloud

hi
i am using DPMFoam.
i run 1. foamToVTK and then 2. open the kinematicCloud file and then 3. glyph.
but i see nothing in Scalars and Vector. does any one know whats the problem!?
i have all the properties of my lagrangian particles in all the times folder. and i can see them by parafoam. but i dont know whats the problem with the foamToVTk.
should i do any thing any rather than the steps i mentioned?

oh, srry
i found what was the problem. it seems i have to choose the files of lagrangian cloud for each separated time not the whole files all together!
but can i have all the time steps in paraview after foamToVTK?
the other question of mine is that how can i plot the curve for the surface of my particles ?

how to use particle tracking and entering in paraview?

Dear All,
I am a new user in OpenFOAM and paraview and want to enter the particles in my case...But I do not know it and need it very much.
Please tell me those steps of entering and tracking particles in paraview as simple!

Thanks in advance!
Ali

Hi guys,

Or in case if you want to create particle tracking with pathlines that animates over time completely within ParaView from case without lagrangian data, yes you can, but with a bit complex visualization pipeline (see the Pipeline Browser in the screenshot attached below).

The key is to apply Temporal Interpolator that allows you not only to interpolate saved time steps (that are typically too sparse to create a smooth particle tracking animation by themselves) but also to access temporal filters of ParticleTracer and Particle Pathlines. And note that you can create particle seeds from whatever source you like (Plane, Point Source Line, etc) in the Sources menu.

There are lots of options across the filters and sources that affect the formation of the pathlines so you need to do some experiments. Also, in my experience ParticleTracer of ParaView 3.8.0 often crashes ParaView so you might need a git version of ParaView 3.9.

Hi 7islands,
I was interested in the procedure that you attached to get particle tracking without performing it in the fluid solver, but just computing in Paraview.

Unfortunately I can not open your attachment.
Could you please send me the steps of the procedure?

Thanks in advance for your help

Thanks @wyldckat for your reply!
The problem is that when I apply the ParticleTracer filter Paraview ( I tried both version (5.4.1, 5.5.2 and 4.4.0) stops immediatly without giving any description of the kind of error.
As suggested in the previous steps, I performed a TemporalInterpolator filter but I noticed (trying several times) that gives different results with the same input parameters.
For the ParticleTracer filter, I defined as input the volume mesh where are contained the velocity information and as source I selected the inlet plane of my CFD model.
Did anyone experience the same problem with ParticleTracer?

Was having same issue, but it worked later on

It''s late but as I was facing similar problem. It might due to some trivial problems, as I was having one. In paraView, in stead of using the "plane" or "line", I was extracting an array of cells with "Extract Cells By Region". Also I tried to uncheck "Skip Zero Time" in the Properties pane of the "<case>.foam file. Both resulted in crashes without any error message. Bottom line, it works if the steps mentioned here are followed exactly: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/H...er_in_paraFoam
