flow time in openfoam/paraview

Hello Foamers,
i am using interFom solver for simulating a flow in a reciprocating cooling channel. The flow is transient and the cooling channel is only partially filled. Now, i would like to evaluate the average flow time for a "particle" in the cooling channel using openfoam or paraview.
thanks.

I don't really understand what you want. Isn't this flow time just volume divided by flow rate?

Hi Bernhard,
Thanks for your reply.

What i am looking for is something like particle tracking where i define points at the inlet, for example, and the streamlines of the flow are created from these points indicating the time needed for the particle to flow throughout the channel.
Can i do this using interFoam solver? Do i need to define the points before starting the simulation?
