Dear Foamer,

I am a bit surprised that there is no easy possibility to add a stokes waves and a current. After reading all the previous posts I tried to use a combination of waves : a Stokes wave and a potential current.

There are some problems :
- a : The wave number calculated by setWaveParameters do not take into account the current velocity. As advised by Niels I tried to recalculate the wave number using the theory (for example using the formula given here : http://www.coastalwiki.org/wiki/Shal...nt_Interaction. For first order wave theory it's kind of easy but it become harder for 5th order waves. As far as I understand only 5 order wave conserve the shape when travelling and because I am interested in seakeeping analysis I would like to used this kind of wave.

- b : If you use a combination of potential current and stokes wave there are some problems when the wave leave the inlet relaxation zone (see picture attached for the waveFlum tutorial). So currently I don't use a inlet relaxation zone.

Are there some solutions to use efficiency wave + current in the waves2foam tool box ?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

hjasak will become famous soon enough
Hi Paul,

Why don't you try stream function waves instead?

Dear Hrvoje Jasak,

Thanks for your help. Because I am not very used to waves modeling I didn't know the existence of stream function waves. After (re)reading the waves2foam manual I manage to set up the waveProperties.input dictionary correctly and got a result. Now I need to go to the source paper to understand properly this kind of waves.

If Niels Gjøl Jacobsen (thank for this wonderful package) takes a look at this post it seems that the Tsoft keyword required for stream waves function is not written in the code Fragment 4.7 of the user manual.

I wish you a good day.
Paul

Hello,
This works for most situations with a uniform current, but what if one needs to incorporate a current that varies with water depth, say a linearly shearing current?
Thanks & regards,
Arun.

Hi,
From my understanding, you can add a uniform current using the stokesVelocity parameter in the wave theory setup.
Regards,
Arun.
