Hi there
I did a relative large simulation and its not convenient to view the results by clicking cells in paraview. So i did some research, finding out it may be better using function objects like forces or probes to extract the results. Since its the first time for me using function objects, i do face some difficulties. 1. Can the function object be used after the simulation? Since i finished the simulation without defining any functions in controlDict and i really dont want to rerun the simulation, as it took me 16 days to do so. 2. After i defined the function object in controlDict, how could i make it working? like execute the results into a file. 3. Is it possible to define the probe location by typing the number of probes, the start point and end point and they are uniformly distributed rather than typing every single locations as show in the example. Many Thanks |

Hi,
To shortly answer your questions: 1. & 2.: Yes, using execFlowFunctionObjects (although some functionObjects (scalarTransport comes to mind) will not give the expected output) 3. In that case sample seems more appropriate. Regards, Tom |

Correct me if i am wrong, cz i am still a newbie. I tried the sampling after i couldnt get function objects working. However, it seems the sampling gives results for certain point at certain time in a separate folder. For instance, results of the location interested are given in folder 20, 40 etc..rather than in a single file like function object did. Is there any way making the sampling for all time interval in a single file? |

Probably the best way would be to use some bash or python scripts for that (Use Google for some examples). If you want to do this stuff more often maybe adapt the OpenFOAM source code. Good luck.
