runtime averaging along homogenous directions

Dear all,

I am simulating DNS of channel flow where the x and y direction have periodic BC. I want to compute a profile in z (the non-homogenous direction) of the fluctuating velocity components. To do this I need to average the velocity components at each z=constant level of my structured mesh.

I have searched the OpenFOAM literature and forums and found only approximate solutions. I could use a sampling function object but my problem is how to specify that, at each time step, the function object must sample at several planes along the z direction?

Hello Joao

In this thread a sample utility is presented
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...average-3.html
where a plane is obtained by averaging in one direction.

But, if you only want to have a profile (i.e. a line), you should use this application:
https://github.com/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM...us/postChannel

If there is any possibility to do this during the runtime, I have no idea, but I would like to know :)

I hope it was helpful!
