Hello

I am in the process of making a utility that gives me the pressure and coordinates along a line on a boundary surface. The best way I can describe the function is that I want to specify a boundary patch, a plane and from the line created by the intersection between these extract the pressure values. I have tried the utilities supplied with OF-1.3 but I can not make any of them perform this.

Is this functionality already in OF and the reason I have not succeeded that I have not understood how to do this with the provided utilities? If it is not already in OF I will make this utility.

Hello

I have started looking into this and decided to attempt to alter sampleSurface so that it instead of the entire mesh interpolates only over the cells belonging to a wall-type boundary. Is this a silly idea?

Hi Olle,

I'd be interested in this as well. We have an example where we need to do something similar - extract results along a surface of a smooth contraction, calculated with potentialFoam.

We ended up using sample and offsetting the points from the surface by a fraction - the results are then postprocessed with Matlab. Not an elegant solutions and I started to look around for somethign similar to you.

Cheers

Hello Richard

I tried using sample in that way too but I do not know the exact position of my boundary so it turned out to be just a lot of work. And, since I will need this type of data from rather complex geometries I wanted a more general approach as well.

I will post up any progress I make, I just have to try and understand the code first.

Hi Olle, Richard,

Did you manage to create a utility that extracts (and maybe even processes) data from a line on a boundary surface?

If you (or anybody else for that matter) did, or if you know an existing utility that can do this, I would be very interested in it.

By the way, sampleSurface and sample (in OF1.4.1) can not do this (at least not as far as I am aware).

Thank you very much!

Hi,

one option could be to use visit:

Or does anyone got something easier without so much clicking?
