I'm trying to figure out how to visualize the results from OpenFoam while the simulation is still running. I'm using OF 1.7.1 and ParaView 3.8. Perhaps post-processing is not the best term here as what I'd like to see is actually something done simultaneously.
I'd like to see the results for example as contour plots or vector fields or as a plot of a single variable (depends on a case).
I read in OpenFOAM release notes for version 1.7.0 that "Post-processing has been extended particularly to function objects, the on-the-fly post-processing system."
I'd be very glad if somebody can point in which direction I should take a look.
Btw, I've come across a term "in-situ visualization". As I understood, the point is to dump redundant data and keep only visualization results. Am I correct about this or it's the same thing as on-the-fly visualization?

Well it depends what data you want to visualize.
The only way to visualize the data without saving is to pipe them into the visualization software. I have not done it myself but I would make a version of write to writeOnFly which would send the data to gnuplot, or parafoam maybe through some python interface so you have only window with the results. This would slow down the calculation with the visualization step. Maybe faster would be to write down the data, show them and remove.
But there must be someone more clever in these things than me, I hope.
