fluentMeshToFoam - Volume Fields

4 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I'd like to simulate a furnace for high temperatures which probably ends up with MultiRegionHeater solver.

The furnace is axially symmetrical and has two cylindrical drill holes (inlet, outlet). It contains an axially symmetrical heating element.
I finally have three meshes:
mesh 1: 'Heizstab.msh' = heating element
mesh 2: 'Stroemungsraum_9' = air volume in the furnace between insulation an heating element
[mesh 3: enclosing insulation cover]

For now I would like to surrender mesh 3 and 'only' import mesh1 and mesh2 in OF.
The meshes have been created in ICEM. I've saved them in a format readable for Fluent-Solver.

I've tried to convert these two meshes to OF consecutively with 'fluentMeshToFoam'.

CheckMesh gives the attached results.
The problem seems to be that the volume can't be rendered since neither point nor cell data is available!

If I open the conversion results in paraview with paraFoam it seems that in each case I have only produced surface meshes.
paraview > Properties tab > Volume Fields has no entry. It is not possible to switch the representation style from Surface to Volume! (Display tab > Style > Representation).

In a second attempt I've used fluent3DMeshToFoam but I ended up with the same problem.

Can anybody explain me the difference between 'fluentMeshToFoam' and 'fluent3DMeshToFoam'?
What do I have to change (maybe in ICEM where I've created the meshes) to create *.mesh files with the necessary point or cell data???

Thanks to All who can help!!!!

Lisa :(

fluentMeshToFoam is for to import 2D Mesh
and
fluent3DMeshToFoam is for to import 3D Mesh

Hi nima
I have tried for week to import fluent mesh to openfoam. but i have problem. when i use command fluentMesh3DToFoam in openfoam version 1.6-ext and 2.1.1, OF dose not run, my case is 3D, and when i use fluentMeshToFoam(that you said is for 2D), i got error and said one face has 5 points in quad element, only one face, I do not know what to do?
would you explain what is the problem?
--> FOAM FATAL ERROR:
Problem : cannot find a single face in the mesh which uses vertices 4(5375 379 5937 10933)

I have mesh my case in fluent, I saved the file in format .msh, can i mesh the case with snappyHexmesh again?

Dear fatemeh
i think, it is vice versa :), you should explain the problem :D, i should help you to make it solved! tell me whats wrong when you used fluentMesh3DToFoam, what are error lines?

have you ever checked your mesh in gambit before import it in OpenFOAM, because it seems, your geometry is not closed

im afraid not, snappyHex mesh accepts STL file or its defined geometries

Hi Nima,

I got the same error message with fateme, can you help me to solve? I am using icemcfd to generate the mesh, do you know how to check the geometry is closed in icem?

Kind regards,
Yeru
