About the $internalField boundary condition
Hello, all.

Playing around with some tutorial examples in OF, i've stumped with some weird type of fixedValue boundary condition specification. Something like this:

type fixedValue;
value $internalField

I've been searching in the guides for months, but never found anything about the $internalField operator. What is the meaning of it? And where can I find lectures about it?

You can refer previously defined variables in OpenFOAM dictionaries.

In this case, you would have something like

internalField  uniform 0;
on top of your code. So the "uniform 0" is also used for this BC. Just consider it as a string that is copied to that location, there is nothing special under the hood.

Hi hfsf

Although Bernhard reply was somehow sufficient and complete. I can add that for instance for pressure of the domain in free jets that exit to the non-confined environments; we can use this type of boundary condition.
The internal field value is 1e05 pa.

dear all.

i have a question for this $internalField boundary condition.

if the initial condition is defined as

internalField  nonuniform List<scalar>

        type            fixedValue;
        value          $internalField;

and this scalar field is changing with solution time,
will the boundary field value keep equal to the value in the patch-connected cell?

could someone plz give me some hints? thanks in advance!
