Hello everyone,

I am new to OpenFOAM and therefore have some trouble getting a start on it, since I cannot find tutorials on what I'm looking for.

My aim is to simulate the mass transfer of oxygen in a falling flat film of water. To do this I decided to use the scalarTransportFoam solver which looked promising after I did the tutorial for the pitzDaily case.
However, I cannot find any documentation of how to set up the required velocity field without punching in the desired values for each cell by hand.

I've attempted to create a steady field by running a simulation using the interFoam solver, but the solving process failed due to numerical reasons I don't understand.

For a start I want to simulate my case in 2D with a steady velocity profile which should look like this: u(y) = g*h^2/nu*(y/h-.5*(y/h)^2)
Where h=10mm is the height of the film, which for now is assumed to be constant in the x (=flow) -direction.

My geometry is a simple, one block mesh of 50x10x1 mm with (100 10 1) cells.

Is there any simple way to implement this?
Do you have literature/tutorial suggestions?

I don't mean to bother you with these fundamental problems, but I searched for two days now and couldn't find anything that brought me any further.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Marco,

I think that you might want to research codedFixedValue boundary condition. It should allow you to define the velocity profile. Sorry I can't give you a detail answer, I am pretty new to OpenFOAM as well.

Hey Charles,

thanks for that hint! I'll look into this as soon as I can.
