Why pointMesh and fvMesh are separated?

Hmm, I am confused?
I am wondering why pointMesh and fvMesh are separated?
Is pointMesh a later add-on decision?
Why cannot simply let pointMesh be a sub member data of fvMesh? So to let all the pointPatch be under the fvPatch?

Any ideas?
