Arbitrary crack propagation using OF1.6
Dear Foamers,
First of all, I apologize if my question exposed below is not a correct issue for this forum. I am a new user of OF1.6. Currently I have a little experience with OF with very simple problems involving natural convection (buoyant****Foam). Since OF is a very powerful tool, I would like to use it in other fields, concretetly in fracture mechanics. After browsing through this forum, I could see that OF can be used to solve problems of stress analysis in solids. (some specifications were pointed in this message: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...28jan2006.html I am specially interested in problems with crack propagation. In my current research (ceramics) this feature is extremely important and interesting. I would like to know if there is some example case where I can see the manner in which this problem is tackled. ¿ Can anyone give me some useful info or doc, please ? Thanks a lot in advance Francisco |
Hello Francisco,
Some house-keeping for starters - this work is not connected with OpenCFD in any way so you will not see it in any of their future releases. For contributions like this (and many others) we've got the -dev line and Extend projects. The work has been done in the group of prof. Ivankovc at Unversity College Dublin and by dr Zeljko Tukovic (try FSB Zagreb); I have contributed the topological changes, creating new boundary faces when the crack occurs. From what I know, this project is nearing conclusion and all solvers are working well. I would suggest that you contact prof. Ivankovic or Zeljko directly and ask for ptheir plans on sharing the code, doing joint research or public release of their work. Good hunting, Hrv |
