How to simulate flows around ships with GGI

Hello,

I want to simulate flows around a ship for several wind directions with OpenFOAM. So I have to rotate the ship or the domain for that job. We did that in CFX with two independent meshes (the ship is placed in a cylinder, the domain rotates around the cylinder) and the GGI Interface. I know that GGI is also available in OpenFOAM, but I don't know how to implement this function.

Is there anybody, who can give me some basic information about the implementation of GGI interface? I found some tutorials about turbomachinery, but this was not useful...

I appreciate every good advice, thanks.

hi slint,

you could start with the ERCOFTAC centrifugal pump test cases. In one case, the inner mesh is rotating while the outer is fixed.

If you are using OpenFOAM 2.1, you could start with the propeller tutorial (incompressible/pimpleDyMFoam/propeller I think). Again, one rotating inner mesh and a fixed outer mesh coupled by an interface (cyclicAMI - similar to GGI in OpenFOAM 1.6ext).

hi martin,

thanks for your advice. After some trail and error, AMI seems to work well :)
