turbulence models and transitions

Hi fellow foamers,

I'm using buoyantBoussinesqPimpleFoam to simulate natural convection from a heated open cavity and I'm wondering whether the turbulence models, for example k-epsilon, model turbulent, transition, and non-turbulent flows depending on the grashof number of the cell that is being modelled, or do the turbulence equations come into play regardless of whether it is physically likely that the flow in question is turbulent?

I notice in the transportproperties file for the BBPF/hotRoom simulation there is both a laminar prandtl and the turbulent prandtl number. How are these applied? Perhaps the same question as posed above.

Thanks for your time!

Jeff
