Incompressible, miscible mixing of two fluid stream OpenFOAM

Hi,

I am very new to openFOAM and this forum. To get feel of OpenFOAM i decided to setup a test case involving mixing of two fluid stream (compressible and miscible).

It is not a two-phase situation i am dealing with, it is one phase (water) at two different temperatures mixing in a T-junction.

Can anyone suggest me which solver to use?

Greetings Nishchal,

I'm no expert on this subject, so until someone more experienced responds, here's what I know...

If you check the folder "heatTransfer" in the OpenFOAM "tutorials" folder, you'll find these solver tutorials:
Quote:

Code:

buoyantBoussinesqPimpleFoam
buoyantBoussinesqSimpleFoam
buoyantPimpleFoam
buoyantSimpleFoam
buoyantSimpleRadiationFoam
chtMultiRegionFoam
chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam

"Simple" ones are for stationary simulations; "Pimple" ones are for transient simulations; "chtMultiRegion" ones are for multiple mesh domains with different fluids/solids.

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Nishchal,
Did you find out which solver to use and what boundary conditions to use?
I am also looking at the same problem and have been stuck on it for three days now. I am not able to find this simple example anywhere.

multiphase flow solver would be the option in my guess

since the pure substance is having different thermodynamic states before mixing, it may be somehow relevant to treat them as two different fluids? if the compressibility can be ignored, twoLiquidMixingFoam is there as a standard solver in OpenFoam. otherwise, you need to modify this solver by adding the codes related to the compressibility of the fluids. still you can search for other relevant solvers which may best fit your physical model.

i used buoyantBoussinesqSimpleFoam. But i will try with twoLiquidMixingFoam also. Thanks :)

hi Vishal
I'm new with openfoam and I want to ask you how did you setup you boundary Condition for U and T ( in my case i have two Outlets and two Inlets and two fluids with different temperature that they wil be mixed up ) I'm using also buoyantBoussineqsSimpleFoam.
thank u so much for any inofrmation

Hi Annier,
how could you set up the temperature of your fluids with twoLiquidMIxingFoam solver?
In my case have to mix up to liquid with two different temperature (cold and hot Water)
thx
