Gas/Film flow with reactingParcelFilmFoam
I've been spending some time experimenting with reactingParcelFilmFoam. I've been able to set up a simulation of a falling film in a vertical circular tube where only the film flow is solved. Recently, I've been trying to add the gas flow, but when I do, the gas flow field I get is quite strange.
I use the same film flow parameters that resulted in a good answer for the film kinematics only and include a very low velocity co-current gas flow. The inlet faces stay in downflow, but the cells directly adjacent to the inlet have a nearly equal upflow. As the simulation progresses, a rather complex (and I believe fictitious) flow patterns develops in the gas about midway down the tube. At the interface between the film region and the gas flow region, I've used a mapped boundary condition for the velocity.
Has anyone had any success in setting up such a test of reactingParcelFilmFoam? Alternatively, is there any insight to be had in the things that I might be doing wrong in my simulation setup? I should say that I tried using rhoPimpleFoam with the gas phase only and this worked well and produced a nice, parallel velocity field as I would expect from the simulation incorporating a very thin wall film.
Any help or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
I am having even more issues with this. My setup is not even solving the gas flow at all?! it selects a turbulence model etc, but then only solves for the film flow.

Sorry that it took me so long to get back to this post. I figured the additionalControls piece was what you were missing. I'm glad you were able to figure it out on your own.
My problems with gas flow remain unresolved (as I've not gotten back to it much since my original post). If you make any progress in predicting combined gas and film, please let me know.
