Let's say, I need part of the mesh solving by LES and part of the mesh solving by DES or RANS. The hole domain is a channel, the upstream should be solved by a LES solver and downstream should be solved by DES/RANS solver.

Is it possible to do that in OpenFOAM? How?

Thanks

Dear Zifei,

interesting question! To my knowledge it will be quite challenging to couple these two different ways of solution.

Probably your best chances are either with one of the multiRegion-solvers (to my knowledge a fluid-fluid-interface is not yet implemented in that one) or with the fvMeshSubset-functionality.
Unfortunately I am not deep enough in the development right now to know if something like that is implemented so far. Good luck with finding the capabilities in OpenFoam! ;-)

Regards,
Bernhard

You might want to look at LEMOS
