Hi everyone,

I am new to openFoam. Hope someone can help me .

I am trying to simulate an isothermal, laminar flow around a sphere with chtMultiRegionFoam (after I'll try to model heat generation inside the sphere). My mesh domain is 6m x 6m x 6m with a 1.2m D sphere at the centre. I have imposed no-slip condition on the sphere, fixed velocity at the inlet, inletOutlet condition at the outlet and slip conditions at the other 4 boundaries. As for the pressure I used fixedValue at the outlet and zeroGradient at the inlet.

The problem I have is that it seems that instabilities are generated at one corner of the boundary so that I have backup flow at the outlet. These instabilities get worse with decreasing the velocity so I suspect has something to do with the solver settings

I attached the file I used in the simulation and the picture of a section of my system (Water is flowing left to right at 0.1 m/s)

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Niccolo
