reactingFoam for supersonic flow?
 
Hello,

I like to use reactingFoam to simulate an ALD reactor. Since I reach velocities up to 450 m/s I like to know if reactingFoam can be used for supersonic flow. And if not, how can I implement such a capability? Where do I have to look in the source code to find out if a solver is suited for supersonic flow? Would rhoReactingFoam be a better choice?

Greetings Hester

rhoReactingFoam is much better for fully compressible flows. Cause it solves the rho equation every time step. Although reactingFoam uses compressible schemes due to not solving rho equation, is not suitable for supersonic flows.

Although for non-reacting cases you can use sonicfoam too.:)

Hi Hester - Did you managed to successfully use rhoReactingFoam for supersonic flows? I am dealing with the similar problem and would like to know the right track to follow.

Hello yagb,

I wasn't able to realise my simulation. My simulation looked fine at the beginning but got unstable due to supersonic flow at some point. There is probably a solution to it but I could not figure it out. Anyway, I think rhoReactingFoam is the appropriate solver for such problems.

I would like to suggest to try my solver edcPisoFoam =) which is based on rhoReactingFoam and incorporates the Eddy Dissipation Concept with a detailed chemistry approach for the turbulence-chemistry interaction. I have finished my PhD related to OpenFOAM and turbulent combustion modeling with OpenFOAM this year using this solver, so it has good validation and references =)

Hi,
I am working on mixing of H2 & air at supersonic speed. I tried rhoreactingfoam but at high speed it has stopped after some iteration can u send me ur files at mukesh22adlak@gmail.com
I am also trying for doing the same with sonicfoam but not successful yet.

Hello Mukesh,

I was not able to produce a working case, so rhoReactingFoam should probably not be used for supersonic flows - see comment from babakflame above. SonicFoam might work, but I have no experience with this solver.

Hi,
rhoReactingFoam is good for compressible transonic/subsonic flows. But It is not working for supersonic flows. Can u tell me how to modify it for supersonic flows.

it is not clear how to download or implement edcPisoFoam.

I am trying to use it because I heard that it has WSGGM model in it.

What I want is to get WSGGM radiation submodel.
