Question on RAM
 

This is probably a simple question for those who know way more about computers than I do. I am in the process of obtaining more processors and RAM to efficiently run my simulation. It's a large simulation that has already taken over a day to complete, and I have an option to obtain more RAM. From my understanding and experience, RAM does more for visuals, rendering, and memory than it does help processing speed. Has anybody had experiences where increased RAM really does a lot for your simulation? What would the major benefits be?

when running a solver, you should have 1 GB of RAM per million cells approximately. So the major benefit would be the possibility of a larger mesh. As far as I know RAM doesn't have anything to do with speed in this context.
Regarding your simulation, a faster processor might help, or parallel computing, as well as enhancing your mesh, solver configuration etc...

I'm already doing parallel computing (otherwise I don't think I would get anything done). Unfortunately the process of getting more resources is always a battle. But, now I have more to tell them about the RAM I'm asking for. Thanks for the info, Kate!
