Dear Everyone,
I spent hours reading all the threads and the examples that people posted on this forum but can't figure out what to use for my own case. I am using OpenFOAM 2.3 to model a basin with a pump at the end. I want to see the swirls created at the entrance of the pump. The water level is fixed to 1.8m and the velocity at the outlet (at the top of the pump) is fixed too (please take a look at the picture to understand the geometry). I am running a kEpsilon model turbulence but cannot find a proper way to define the boundary conditions. As I said the water level (alpha=1) is set at 1.8m. I want to put a flow on the outlet and I also want to know what are the BCs for the otehr patches. Can someone help me please? I posted my boundary file. I have U, p_rgh, k, epsilo, nut, nuTilda and alpha.water as boundary condition. Thank you so much and I am sorry this kind of thread is already posted somewhere. Dadou |

Hi,
some question for a better understanding: - do you plan to use VOF (i.e. interDyMFoam solver) or other? - do you want to assign a prescribed flow to outlet in m3/s or in Kg/s or as velocity only (m/s)? Because I'm involved in a similar problem too, I will be interested in understanding your needs. Bye ......Piero |

I am using interFoasm as a solver and the prescribed flow at the outlet is in m3/s. Did you have time to solve the boundary conditions? Dadou |

Hi Dadou,
in this while I have no time to work with oF. Your job is very similar to mine, although geometry is very different. The first thing you should do is to set where is water and where is air. I mean you should define the geometrical portion filled of water, assuming that all domain is air dominant: use setFields utility (and write a setFieldsDict in system directory) to complete this task. I have attached an example of setFieldsDict . This is only the first step: as soon as I will find the correct way, I will write again. Bye . . . Piero |

I didn't have much time to work on this project. But this I did before and the only thing left now is waht to put for each BC (U,p_rgh, k, epsilon ...) Did you manage to figure it out ? Thank you again Dadou |

Hi Dadou,
were you able to solve the case? I didn't have time, in past, to manage your problem, but now I have a similar analysis, where I need to manage suction BC. Do you have some suggestion on it? can you share you BC files? I already wrote a Post about this problem: look at http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...tml#post554385 you will find details. Thank you very much Piero |

Hi Piero,
Unfortunately I did not solve this as I stopped working on this and got busy at work with something else. But if I start working on the project again I let you know Thank you for your reply and again sorry Regards, Dadou |
