Using thermoFOAM over porousSimpleFoam simulation

Hi Foamers,

I have done several external aero simulation with porousSimpleFoam with KomegaSST turbulence model, now I have to implement energy equation in those simulations.

After some not working tests with rhoPorousSimpleFoam, I have found thermoFoam application. As listed in OF official guide thermoFoam
evolves the thermodynamics on a frozen flow field, so I have a question, Can I use this application over my old simulations in order to have the temperature field?

Best Regards,
Leonardo

Hi Leonardo,

It depends. But normally the effect of temperature on the flow field is not negligible, so it's not a good idea to solve temperature on a frozen flow field.

I would recommend you to use buoyantBoussinesqSimpleFoam or buoyantSimpleFoam, where the coupling between temperature field and flow field is solved. And the porous part can be easily accounted for using fvOptions.

Yan
