Hello fellow modelers,

I am new to this OpenFoam environment for numerical modeling. I am trying to model a simple case to study the interaction of a tsunami wave with a structure inland (approximately 500 m onshore). I am wondering how exactly I would go about approaching this problem?

I am assuming it would not make sense to build a model domain that is 500 m long. The topography is pretty flat. Do we need to assign an initial water level on the land areas for wave generation?

It will be of great help if I can get some guidance on this.

Rgds.

Hello Ajay,

So you want to model a fluid-structure interaction (FSI) ?

That is a very complicated task, but i think it is possible, i will leave some links as reference for you to investigate more on this subject:

But i think an easier approach would be to make a CFD model to calculate the pressure on the structure due to the waves, and then make a FEM model of the structure using the results from the CFD as loads input.

I hope you find the best way to solve your problem.

best regards,
Igor L.

Igor,

Thank you for your response. Yes, it is more of a wave-structure interaction model. I will check the references and see if I can find what I am looking for.

Rgds,

Ajay
