Hi, I am new to OpenFOAM and I would like to start playing with it.

As suggested by some friends of mine, who already are experienced OF users, I'll start having a look to the very basic solvers.

However, my final goal would be to try implementing the ECFM model for simulating premixed combustion in engine applications. It looks like this topic has never been discussed before on this forum.

Could you please give me some pointers to the already existing OF-release solvers for premixed combustion? It will help a lot to do not have to start from the scratch.

Thanks in advance.

On the LES implementation:

The original RANS implementation is described in an Imperial College technical report written by Henry.

Dear Michael,

are you going to apply the ECFM combustion model to simulate a Ferrari engine?

Try Xoodles, may it be good point to start at!

Dear Gavin and Hamed,

thanks a lot for your suggestions. XiFoam and Xoodles sound like two valuable resources.

Actually my biggest concern in trying to implement the ECFM in OpenFOAM is not related to the description of the flame front propagation (i.e. the transport equations for the reaction progress and the flame surface density), rather to the infrastructure dedicated to the computation of the species properties.

However it seems like pretty much of the machinery is already there: that's great!

Best regards

@ Tommaso: how did you guess? ;)

Dear Michael,

Have you made any progress in implementing ECFM in OpenFOAM?

kind regards,
