Hi

Suppose i have finished a foam run, and am interested in values at a few spatial locations, how would i extract these from the output?

Thanks
Srinath

During the simuation you can do that using the probes-functionObject (have a look at $FOAM_TUTORIALS/oodles/pitzDaily/system/controlDict for an example).

I have never tried this, but I think that you can use the same mechanism to do it after the simulation. Just add the entries to the controlDict and run a postprocessing-utility that loads the fields you are looking for into memory (Mach or something like that)

Thanks Bernhard

I added the lines to the control dict and i get the runtime information.
I would ideally like to extract information at particular spatial co-ordinates even after the run is completed. I am not very familiar with manipulating IO objects. Could someone tell me how i should go about it?

Thanks

Hi Srinath

There is a tool which you might would take a look at. It is called 'sample' and lives in

~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.4.1/applications/utilities/postProcessing/miscellaneous/sa mple

In this folder there is also an example of a sampleDict. Using this tool you can extract points along a line. I do not know if you can extract in specific points, but a line with two points is only a little bit do much work

Thanks Niels

I copy the sampleDict into the case/system directory
And it works perfectly when i issue the command
sample . cavity

Hi Users,

Have you used probes function in multiphase flow solvers (rasInterFoam or interFoam)? I could obtain the probe/0/ files but there is a mistake. The values are not written in the correct time step.

I tried probes function with other solvers (icoFoam, oodles, turbFoam). In this cases probes function works fine.

I have not found the reason for this behaviour.
Any clue?

Thank you in advance.
Martin.
