Dear Message Board,

currently I'm dealing with combustion.
Simulating combustion, my favorite solvers were dieselFoam, dieselEngineFoam an engineFoam.

According to a new publication (Guha, A., Transport and Deposition of Particles in Turbulent and Laminar Flow, 2008), it is possible to model the particles with an Euler approach, too (compared to (diesel)(Engine)Foam were the particles are modeled with the Lagrangian approach).

So, my question is, does there already exist a solver in OpenFOAM-1.4.1 that can handle an Euler-Euler-approach with (subsequent) combustion?
(I'm almost afraid it doesn't exist...)
Alternatively, which already existing solver is a adequate basis for adding some combustion code?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hello and a nice day to all the Message Board members!!

Can't anybody elaborate on the point mentioned above?

Thanks a lot,
Andreas

Good Morning to the OpenFOAM developers!!

Maybe you could just answer me if one of the OpenFOAM solvers handles combustion with an Euler-Euler-method?

As far as I'm informed there ain't a solver of that kind. I just want to have a confirmation to be completely sure about that point!?

Thanks in advance,
best regards,
Andreas

Hey,

Doesn't look like it.
But it wouldn't be too difficult (well, not impossible at least) to combine the existing Euler-Euler and combustion codes in Foam.
I'm sure you're aware of the existing literature on combustion + Euler-Euler methods (e.g. Iyer's work, Jay and Candel's...). What models do you have in mind specifically?

Ciao

Pierre

Hey Pierre,

well I'm not really aware of Euler-Euler methods in combination with combustion.
Originally I wanted to pose a diploma thesis where the main research is to compare Euler-Lagrange and Euler-Euler methods. But since the candidate is quite a lot into combustion I agreed to include the combustion field (at least a bit).

The only problem now is that I'm not quite sure how "easy" it is to implement combustion to the existing twoPhaseEuler code. But I'm afraid that it won't be possible at all during a 6 month period where the focus should not be the combustion part...

Maybe you could share some idea with me how to add combustion to the twoPhaseEulerFoam!?

I would appreciate that very much!!
