Hi,

Does anybody know how one can employ the cyclic boundary condition combined with another constraint in OpenFOAM?
The whole idea is that I want to solve fully developed flow in a pipe but I don't want to model whole developing and fully developed regions. If I can use cyclic boundary condition for inlet and outlet boundaries of short pipe while maintaining the fixed flow rate then the short pipe will also work for me .

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but take a look at channelFoam. It is a solver for channel flow that allows you to fix the flow rate through the domain that has cyclic BC's. Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will definitely dig into channel flow solver.
The other way around that I just figured out last night is to use the directMaped boundary condition. I found an example in the following tutorial:
~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.6.x/tutorials/incompressible/pisoFoam/les/pitzDailyDirectMapped
Using this boundary condition the user can mapp the velocity field on the downstream plate to the inlet boundary and eventually simulate the infinite channel.
However, I am still looking to find an example for directMappedFlowRate boundary condition which I assume to be the most appropriate one for my case.
I would be happy if someone introduce an example.

Hii,

You can give cyclic boundary conditions by using the createPatchDict file, which you have to place inside the systems directory. Refer to http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...eatepatch.html for further details.

Thanks,
Tarak
