Hi,

Does anybody know what kind of reconstruction technique interFoam (VOF) uses in order to reconstruct and create fluid interface? any reference?

Thank you
Smran

Hi Smran,

OpenFOAM does not reconstruct the free surface, it does only track the VOF indicator function using an advection-diffusion equation. The fluid interface is compressed artificially, although it gets smeared over several cells.

You can find more information in this forum, just search VOF and interFoam.

Best,

Pablo

It doesn't do any reconstruction at all. References commonly cited are the PhD thesis of Henrik Rusche or Edin Berberovic.

Does anybody know a reconstruction method better than Youngs algorithm(PLIC)?
Thanks

Someone recently released iso advection for it and it looks very sharp.

I have recently implemented W-THINC for FVUS/Wildkatze and its also looks as sharp as iso advection (Never tested on test cases iso advection is tested, but on industrial test case it maintains very sharp interface even after 100000 time steps)
