Does anyone happen to know if there is second order version available of the downwind scheme? I would like to apply a second order scheme for the convection in the adjoint Euler equations. So far I could only find (and use succesfully) the first order downwind scheme, other schemes seem useless. There is nothing on downwind schemes in the manual either.

I tried to use schemes for vector fields in order to upwind according to the adjoint characteristic direction which is opposite to the physical characteristic direction, but this wasn't a cure either.

I think you mean upwind. Downwind is unconditionally unstable.

So, nobody knows either who has implemented the downwind scheme so I can contact him or her?

Then my other question is: would copying and modifying (for instance) the MUSCL scheme from upwind to downwind be a smart and easy way to write a higher order downwind scheme myself...?

Gauss downwind 2;

does the trick. Nice second order accurate solution!
