Turbulence Modells - Overview
Dear FOAMers,
I am currently doing some turbulence modeling benchmark. I miss some overview list about turbulence models in the documentation as it has been availabele in former releases I think. Looking at the source code I see there is a kOmega SST model (I think it came with 1.4.1) but I don't know if this is a high-reynolds (wall-function) or a low-reynolds implementation? Are there some documents about that? Thanks BastiL |
Hi BastiL,
You can find some discussion on this topic here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...-overview.html Best Regards, :) Paulo Rocha |
Thanks paulo - however the link is linking to this thread?

I'm sorry
Hi BastiL,
I hope this link is correct: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...tallmaras.html Sorry again. Best Regards, Paulo Rocha |
For accurate boundary layer predictions, such as separation prediction, then the SST model should be used with y+<2. In this case, the SST model switches to a low-Re formulation near the wall rather than the wall function formulation. SST still works with 11<y+<300, but the results will be fairly similar to the k-e model since wall functions are used. For 2<y+<11, SST blends wall functions and low-Re formulations. In some situations, such as when needing accurate boundary layer heat transfer predictions or when using the transition model, an even lower y+ of about 1 is recommended with the SST model.
