dieselFoam: Volume fraction limitation?

Hello All,
I would like to ask if dieselFoam solver works for low volume fractions of injected liquid or is it more robust? My case has a liquid inlet which has double the mass flow rate compared to gas. Will dieselFoam be able to handle this or do I have to do some modifications? Thanks for your time, Rachel |

Dieselfoam works under the assumption that the volume of the discrete phase is negligible in comparison to the gas phase. This is accurate to values of void fraction > about 0.9. After that you would expect to get flow separation around the injector, etc. We're working on incorporating a modified set of transport equations identical to Fluent's implementation of DDPM (you can check out their documentation for more information) that should make the code appropriate for lower volume fractions.

Hi Nat,
do you plan to consider collisions in the DPDPM (a fancy name for the multiphase particle-in-cell method) as FLUENT does, namely with the introduction of an arbitrary stress tensor whose effect is to keep clouds from passing the imposed limit for the volume fraction too? Or do you plan to include the effect of collisions in some more refined way? Best,
