conjugateHeatFoam: Should solid and fluid have the same mesh at the coupled boundary?
 
Hi all,

Should the solid region and fluid region have the same mesh grid at the coupled boundary when using the conjugateHeatFoam solver?

Will it work if I define the coupled boundary for solid and fluid as following:

For solid:

cavityTop
{
type regionCouple;
nFaces 50;
startFace 8890;

shadowRegion region0;
shadowPatch polymerMeltTop;
attached on;
}


For fluid:

polymerMeltTop
{
type regionCouple;
nFaces 100;
startFace 3920;

shadowRegion solid;
shadowPatch cavityTop;
attached on;
}

No. chtMRF does coupling by copying values at the domain boundary, while conjugateHF assembles a large matrix for all domains and solves it as one.

I have a simple case with hot fluid region, with zero fluid velocity, and cold solid region. I'd like simulate heat transfer between the regions. Which one of these solvers would you recommend?

It seems they did an interpolation at the coupled interface, so you don't have to set the same mesh.

chtMRF should work just fine and is part of the standard OpenFOAM package.
