Hi mates,

On the one hand, I am now testing a platform with 2 processors Istanbul 2435 @ 2.6GHz which are connected on the mainboard. This amounts to a total of 12 cores. On the other hand, I running the same numerical simulation in a computational node with 2 processors Nehalem E5520 @ 2.27GHz and Shanghai 8382 @ 2.6GHz. The latter amounts to 8 cores.

When running a parallel icoFoam case I found that the performance of Nehalem is much better than Istanbul. Do you know how could I optimize OpenFOAM for Istanbul?

Thanks
Patricio

hello pbohorquez,

For information, check the CPU performance on spec.org (http://www.spec.org/cpu2006/results/cfp2006.html)

For example :
Sun Fire X4140 (AMD Opteron 2435 2.6GHz) : 17.8 (base)
PowerEdge R510 (Intel Xeon E5520, 2.26 GHz) : 29.5 (base) (+60%)

I don't know if it's possible de "customise" OpenFoam with flag compilation at the first installation, to increase performance.
There is any Guru in this room ? (sorry for my french translation)

Best regards / Cordialement

Thanks for the info Rui.

Indeed, I did try the optimisation flags recommended by AMD, but I did not find any improvement.

It seems that Intel is ...
