Which solver is best
Hi everyone,
I am kind of new to OpenFOAM and CFD. I am trying to model the flow over a bullet. I have been trying to decide which solver would be best to use. I have been looking at rhoCentralFoam but it doesnt seem to do turbulent flow. I am not sure about that, but that is what I have been able to find so far. The other solver I have been looking at is sonicFoam. I am just not sure which one is best for the supersonic, turbulent flow of a bullet. I also need it to be able to capture the shock wave. Any help would be appreciated. I am also trying to determine what kind of a boundary condition would be best. Currently I have set up a wedge with an inlet and an outlet, but I am not sure what kind would be best for the top. I have been looking at supersonicFreeStream, but I am not sure. Thanks |
Concerning the question about the right solver for the job:
Check the following paper from 2012: "High Speed Flow Simulation using OpenFoam" http://www.cimec.org.ar/ojs/index.ph...load/4231/4157 It compares sonicFoam and rhoCentralFoam for some typical supersonic cofigurations like single wedge, diamond airfoil and symmetric blunt body... Best Daniel |
