The problem I am tying to solve is a simple one, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get the result that I need. The problem is: I have a rectangular tank half full of a fluid. At t=0, I push the tank some distance "x". What is the force on the walls? Obviously, due to inertia, the fluid will "pile up" against the wall in the direction opposite to the direction of the displacement. If I do a sample, then I will get pressure readings at each wall at specified time intervals. So my question is, at the end of the run for one displacement, what is the total pressure force on the wall? Is it the sum of the pressure forces on the wall at each time interval? or is it something else?
