Hello to all experts and non-experts here in the forum.
I'am new to OpenFOAM (did some SimpleFoam simulations of a rotorblade), but it's the first time i am dealing with heat transfer.
My questionis:
Is there a way to calculate the heat transfer coefficient in OpenFAOM?
I searched not only this forum. The only thread i found matching this question is from the year 2005 and OpenFOAM 1.5 and there was no solution found that time.
Now we have 2012 and OpenFOAM 2.1 and i think there was alot of development in OpenFOAM, so i thought perhaps there is a simple or not so simple way of calculating the heat transfer coefficent.

My case is really simple it's a stream in a pipe. lets say the pipewall is 500K and the inletstream is 200K.
And i want the local heat transfer coefficient.

Is there any application or function to calculate the heat transfer coefficient?

With kind Regards
Viktor

Hallo,

I also have exactly the same situation. From forums, I understand that buoyantBoussinnesqSimpleFoam solver can be used for heat transfer.
But for HTC, I think you need to first calculate the wallHeatFlux from the utility below (not sure if it will work for the latest versions).

http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Contrib_wallHeatFlux

The utility is obviously present in OF2.0.1 but I get an error when I try to use it. I am not sure what I can do about it.

Well if I succeed, I will post back and expect the same from you.

Thanks for your answer!
I will report when i succeed or when i make some progress in calculating the htc!

kind regards Viktor

hi raghu tejaswi

I was wondering if you found out why you got the error you posted above, if so what does it mean?

I have seen a similar error myself and struggling to find an answer.

I'm aware this is an old thread, I was hoping you would remember.

regards
