Verification of melting and solidification three phase model
 
Hello there,

does anybody know a common test case, which consider a phase change due to melting or solidification and the propagation of the PCM (phaseChangeMaterial). I want to benchmark my solver.

The frame is a casting process.

Original Gau & Viskanta experimental paper is in general a) harder to find, b) in general is not reproducible with continuous 2D simulation due to experimental procedure.

Right, the Gau and Viskanta paper is nice but actually not good for validation purpose. I read the article and as you can not really distinct between liquid and solid phase of gallium, they stopped the experiment after different times, let the liquid gallium flow out of the cavity and took photos of the remaining solid gallium. This was done for several time steps and so the melt front could be observed over time.
There was another author - I can't remember the name of - who oberved the melt front with radio spectroscopy.
If you do not have to stick to pure substances with a melting temperature rather than a melting region, you could go for paraffin. I collected several articles like the Gau and Viskanta article in my thesis:

droplet freezing on impacting cold surface modeling
 
Dear All,

I a new OF user.

I am trying to simulate the freezing of droplet impacting on cold surface. Can anyone please suggest solver that can be used for this problem?
