Welcome!

You might want to check out some of the previous posts on the subject
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...-new-user.html

is a good place to start. Also, if you have funding or are willing to pay out of your own pocket, you can go to the workshop and attend the training sessions. You can also try to attend the summer school that is offered every year http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...ol-2012-a.html

The best advise is to just get in there and get using OpenFOAM. There are plenty of cases and tutorials to get started; the forum is full of information on best practices; and there are plenty of people to answer questions and discuss the topic if you are patient. Good luck.

thanks chegdan, for your kind response, i learn how to import cad stl format in OF by seeing discussion on OF, but i dont know how i import xyz coordinates of my model , my model is not cad diagram, i have only xyz coordinates, i don't want to import in any cad software, and get model, because here flapping wing is flexible, twisting, because of that i mark the points on the model( i consider 20 points on my model by florescent ink) and extract the xyz coordinates of the my model, please help me

Hi,

For flexible flapping wing I would advice you to read the PHD-Thesis from Frank Bos
Moving and deforming meshes for flapping flight at low Reynolds numbers

RBF is now included in OF1.6-extend, do not search for RBF in OF2.1.x or OF2.0.x it is not included there.

For pointdata in x,y,z
http://vtk.org/gitweb?p=VTKData.git;a=blob;f=Baseline/Imaging/reconstructSurface.png
you could use
http://www.vtk.org/doc/release/5.10/...ionFilter.html
modify the python example
http://vtk.org/gitweb?p=VTK.git;a=bl...ructSurface.py
to create a STL-file or OBJ-file or so,
but maybe a better solution is to work with based on blender => SwiftBlock

Hi

you will find installation guide for various distributions

You can have more than one OF installation side by side if you manage your .bashrc right.

And no you do not need blender or python, although there is some interesting python stuff that is usually worth to have a look => groovyBC
swak4Foam funkySetFields
pythonFlu

Hi,

just wanted to mention useful tools that give you first class access to non-uniform initial-conditions, s. th. that can be tricky the usual way with standard tools.
