me.ouda is on a distinguished road
Dear Foamers,

I am totally newbie with OpenFOAM and I start reading the user manual and I am really confused because throughout the user manual I can't figure out the details about the underlying physics and the governing equations solved using OpenFOAM. To give you an idea I searched through the document for "Governing Equation" and guess what "0 found"!!!!

I know that OpenFOAM has vast range of solvers that are each designed to solve a specific problem; so accordingly could I find a theoretical reference for each solver "or each group of solvers"

Thanks in advance

Regards.

Greetings me.ouda,

No, I don't see any violating of the forum rules and I'm not 100% sure where you should ask about this.

If no one has answered to your question yet, is very likely because it's not asked in a way that only requires an easy answer. Or because it has only passed 3 days since you've asked and people answer here on the forum when they have free time.

Anyway, to quickly answer your questions:
  1. In order to understand the physics, you'll need a good CFD book: http://www.cfd-online.com/Links/onlinedocs.html
  2. To understand the equations, you might need to also read the OpenFOAM Programmer's Guide:

Although it might be easier if you start by reading these pages:
  • laplacianFoam Solves a simple Laplace equation, e.g. for thermal diffusion in a solid.
  • potentialFoam Simple potential flow solver which can be used to generate starting fields for full Navier-Stokes codes.
  • scalarTransportFoam Solves a transport equation for a passive scalar.
These pages are provided here: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Main_OFSolvers

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi,

http://www.holzmann-cfd.de/index.php/de/literatur tobias Holzmann made a good list of CFD & OpenFOAM related literature His webpage is worth a visit
=> http://www.holzmann-cfd.de/index.php...rische-schemen etc.

=> CoCoons
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...echnology.html

=> New book: The OpenFOAM Technology Primer
http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...gy-primer.html

There are some commercial online courses (I am not associated with the course teacher)
but those courses are far cheaper than other offered courses and you can ask teachers for advise
