Is OpenFOAM capable to simulate a floating object with variable density?
 

Hello everyone.

First I want to apologize for any eventual mistake, english is not my native language. Also this is my first post so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I am currently an engineering student, and every year we have to realise one "big" project. Anyway, I found myself in a team composed of only thermodynamics afficionados, and I'm the only one capable of coding something

But I'm kinda new in CFD, and while openFOAM looks very interesting I'm wondering if it is capable of simulate what my group want, or at least the first step of our project.

For now, what would be great is a simulation of an object sinking in water, then we would inject some compressed air in it, making its density lower and thanks to Archimedes principle, this object will return to its starting point (similarly to a submarine ballast).
That would be perfect if I could get the energetic value (kinetic and potential) of this movement.

So is this simulation possible with openFOAM ?(kinda doubtful with the compressed air thing) If not, do you know how can I do it ?
