Hi foamers,
there are some things in fvSolution when I use pimplefoam that aren't very clear. For example i don't know if I have deactivate correctPhi or no and if yes, why? The only benefit is less time for convergence or are there more? what is utility set in solvers Phi and pcorr?
p.s. what about momentum predictor? Is accounted in correctPhi or is another thing? Need deactivate or not?

Hello,

I suspect your questions are to general for getting an useful answer. For example, I pick out the correctPhi question:
From correctPhi.H header file you get the description:
Quote:
Flux correction functions to ensure continuity.
Required during start-up, restart, mesh-motion etc. when non-conservative fluxes may adversely affect the prediction-part of the solution algorithm (the part before the first pressure solution which would ensure continuity). This is particularly important for VoF and other multi-phase solver in which non-conservative fluxes cause unboundedness of the phase-fraction.
You can always use this description as as starting point for your investigating. If you have more detailed questions, I am always happy to help.

Best regards,

Kate

Hi,

as Kate already pointed out it is not always needed. I prefer to use it for mesh motion but in general I am always only interested in the capabilities of FOAM so my results accuracy are not of main interest. There are much more key's you can set in the fvSolution subDict PIMPLE. If you are interested in some keywords, you can also check out that one: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/blo...orithm&u=25876

I think it is a bit out-dated but it is still valid. I could renew it but there is no time, like always.

Good luck and for further questions, I am sure kate can give you good answers. I just wanted to bring a few new informations to you related to the PIMPLE algorithm

Absolutely, this is the best explanation of the PIMPLE algorithm I have found so far. Thanks for that, Tobi, it helped me a lot.
