OPENFoam File Format as XML A Wishlist

Is it worthwhile to have file format of OpenFOAM, (the dictionary structure basically) changed to XML format?

That would make parsing with other packages, and third party package development very easy, given the availability of XML Parsing libraries.

Just a thought, so put it into wish list ;)

I think the present format is quite user-friendly. Besides many folks already have tools to do what they need. Those would become useless if the format changes. Just a thought.

Hi Iyer,

XML might be good for machines to read/write, but the current dictionary structure is much more human readable. You could probably take the current OpenFOAM framework and use it to write a dictionary to XML filter.
