Hi there,

I have only very recently started using Openfoam and have run through some of the tutorials. I have previously used Harpoon and Fluent for all of my work.

I have a mesh that was generated in Harpoon and then converted to OpenFoam format within Harpoon. I would like to run this using simpleFoam just to compare the results, time taken etc to a fluent run that I did on the same mesh.

Is it just a case of copying the simpleFoam tutorial and placing my mesh files into the polymesh folder (4 files - faces, nodes, etc) and then modifying the files???

Any other suggestions on how I could get this up and running with minimal fuss would be appreciated.

I can email the mesh to anyone with a spare 5 minutes to try and get it running if you have the time!

Oh yeah, its an open wheel race car, so it has inlet, outlet, walls, car (walls), and moving ground (although I am not sure how easy it is to give the ground plane a velocity in OpenFoam, I'll get to that later once I can understand how to get it running!

Cheers,

Scott

Scott,

I can take a look at it. Send it to the email given in my profile, please.
In general it works the way you described it. modify files to fit you needs. I would be very interested in your results comparison I am currently doing similar things and so far have performance problems compared to Fluent.

I am also simulating cars using openfoam.
Currently working on some spoiler shapes. I would be interested in the fvSchemes and fvSolution file you use Bastil. Would it be possible to share them? I could give you a feedback on the solution I found with my shape if you are interested.

@scott: I used harpoon few months ago, and normally there's not much more to do than what you described.

Regards,

Vincent

In general, yes. however I am still experimenting with both of them, especially fvSolution. OF still runs much slower for me than FLUENT (similar number of iterations needed but about 3 times more time per iteration) - is this the case for you, too?

I am sorry but I don't have fluent to compare with.
I am only interested in the results in fact, and I try, when it is possible, to compare them with experimental data.
Did you already validated your results? Comparing to a code or experimental data?

Regards,

Vincent
