Conjugate Heat Transfer

Hi Foamers,

is it possible (with OF-1.5 or OF-1.5dev) to simulate transient heat transfer (no fluid flow, only diffusion of heat!) in composite solids (for example 3 regions of solid, each one with different physical properties, e.g. heat conduction etc. coefficient)?

Your answers (maybe an example) are highly appreciated!

cheers,
Primoz

Hello Primoz,

In

OpenFOAM-1.5-dev/applications/solvers/newStressAnalysis/materialModels/thermalModel/thermalLaws

there is a material property option called "multiMaterial", which allows you to specify multiple zones with different properties. The rest should be obvious :)

Enjoy,

Hrv

Hi Hrvoje,

thank you for quick reply! Since my current interest is in "pure diffusion" of (general) scalar, is it possible to use "multiMaterial" option with laplacianFoam (or scalarTransportFoam) solver?

Last but not least, do you have an example for "my case" - diffusion of scalar (e.g. temperature) in multizone (3-layer) solid? If yes, I would highly appreciate your further assistance! Unfortunately, "most obvious" is usually hard to see :).

Cheers,
Primoz

P.S.: ...I am just finishing an article (non-Newtonian flows) performed with OF-1.5. Would you agree to be one of the possible reviewers (since you are the OF and CFD "guru")? If so, can you please let me know your contact details (company, address, e-mail, ...).

Does the multiMaterial utility exist in 1.6? I can not find it in any of my directories. It would be extremely useful for me to have this capability.

Thank you
