Hello All.
Out of curiosity, with the recent release of OpenFOAM that just came out, I'm curious if there is a version preference amongst the OpenFOAM community. I was running 1.6.x for a while, and now I plan on trying out 1.5-dev so that I can load Cantera.

So, in brief, what version of OpenFOAM do you use? And, if you're set on this decision, please tell me why?

Thanks,
Sunny

I'm using alternateReactingFoam and so I need OF 1.5-dev. But I also installed OF 1.6 and at the moment I think I don't need OF 1.7.
By the way does anyone have the source-code for a steady EDC-solver in Of 1.5 or better 1.6?

Regards

I use 1.5-dev, but keep a copy of 1.6 available to test my code for other installations.

You should know the dev version (OpenFOAM-extend) is independent of the "official" version (1.7.x now). The only reason the two variations have not deviated (apart from dev being a version or two behind) is because the dev team has chosen to continue incorporating the latest official version.

The differences are:

- dev incorporates user-contributed content into its release
- official version does not, but some user-contributed content available in the dev repository works with the official version
- dev does not have the latest changes of the official version (such as runTime selectable turbulent wall functions, foamToTecPlot, the new lagrange particle framework, density-based thermophysical models)
- official does not have the (vast) contributions from the community and from the dev team (such as GGI interfaces, pyFoam, more mesh motion capabilities, etc..)

By the way, does anyone know what the status is on 1.6-dev, if it is ever planned?
