Solver for two-phase (liquid-gas) flows + cavitation + gas demixing in pumps?

Hello to everyone!

As a novice to OpenFOAM I scanned the available solvers for their potential to treat a somewhat specialized material combination: I'd like to simulate a fluid consisting mainly of oil, but carrying a small amount of air bubbles (assumed slip = 0) and having a certain amount of air molecularly solved in it.

The oil is subject to rather hefty pressure gradients, at least in certain regions of the calculation domain, that may cause both demixing of solved air and cavitation of the oil.

Scanning the out-of-the-box solvers coming with OpenFOAM I did not find one that would fit my expected needs: in the multiphase domain there is only one dealing with two compressible fluids (compressibleInterFoam), while there is another one (cavitatingFoam) dealing with cavitation but not different fluids.

Another approach would be the creation of a custom solver, as explained in http://www.openfoam.com/features/creating-solvers.php. But I do not feel capable enough for such an approach.

So, could someone here give a comment or a suggestion to my above stated practical problem, please?

Kind regards,

Peter

What about interPhaseChangeFoam?

In my understanding it treats only incompressible fluids. As one of the fluids in my problem is air and subject to rather substantial pressure changes this deemed not adequate to me.

Hi Peter,

Have you found some solution?
I am dealing with the same problem!

Sorry, no. I did not dig deeper into the problem, though, as the project was set to a temporary rest for the time being. Maybe I'll take it up some time, but not at the moment.

So, if anyone has become brighter on that problem, I'd love to read ... :D
